Victoria Summers: It's obvious that many streets have collective names....the college streets, the tree streets, Indian names etc. And the obvious (Lakeview Terrace, River Road....near the water) But the only street name that really baffles me is Doty Road.
Pete Emmons: The Doty family were early settlers in Oakland. One of the places they lived was on W. Oakland Ave. across from the intersection of Doty Rd. Later the Romaines lived there; the house is now gone.
Ron Romaine: Wm. Doty built the Post -Doty house in the 1860's. It was bought on land that once belonged to Zachariah K Post. Doty Rd., formerly called Willow St., was actually a cow pass for Doty through his apple orchard (Pleasureland). Doty also built "The Gate house" on Pool Hollow Rd. Wallace B Romaine purchased the Post-Doty house in 1904 & lived there until his death in 1919. His son B Demarest Romaine, my father, then lived there until his death in 1964. I lived there until I sold it in 1989. The new owner rented out the house for one year, then tore it down.
